    hey hey!
sorry for the lack of updates. school is really taking up lots of time. i'm pretty behind time for organic chem (apparently one of the hardest courses here) i'm 2 chapters behind!! that's a LOT ... quizzes are coming up like every-other-day and homework/reading works are pilling up like mad. students here are just like nj students? muggers?! what suck the most i guess is my p r o j e c t work. is really tough. we got to make this device that helps people with wheelchairs exercise their abs in the gym ... i find it pretty hard/challenging to understand the norm / attitude / character of the locals here. is like, i still don't understand their sarcasm? direct-openness? etc (is hard to guess other's intention) ... unlike in singapore, when we do pw, everyone seems to be 'friends' and work effectively by compromising etc ... but here, things are more systematic and to the point that our textbook actually teaches us how to work as a team, what to do when you conduct interview "start the interview by saying: hi, my name is blah blah and this is my team members blah blah blah ..." spoon feeding? and our written exam for this course is to memorise all these general things and write it down on paper. (i tried one quiz already, is really tough! memory work. the book is 30 or so chapters thick)

somehow i'm getting use to the food here (salads and salty soup and other funny bread/meat/pasta combination) is darn-it unhealthy but i cant do anything about it, food at downtown evanston is equally unhealthy. dreaming badly of my mum's home cooked food.

so much for ppl telling me that chicago is a beautiful place, the places i go so far are pretty 'alright only'. unclean etc etc ... evanston is a boring place with no entertainment except food, michigan avenue is the orchard-road look alike but i really prefer orchard road or else texas shopping malls, oldorchard westfield mall seems pretty good, shall play around in it another day (MID TERMS IS NEXT WEEK!!!) and weather is turning cold (but i'm still wearing tees and skirts and no-sleeve shirts) haha!

everyday i'm so shagged from school (i wake up at 7am everyday for organic chem class while everyone else starts their day at 10am or something, i sleep past midnight usually). havent gone to any party yet. havent really sociliased. (hang out with my dorm-mates and fellow singaporeans a lot) and that's pretty much it?

is hard to call my dorm room, my home. and laundry takes 2 hours to wash. ugh :(

    upcoming plans:
visit 6flags (the great america) >>> check out online on what it is!! is a darn exciting place to go!
    buy sneakers and boots
go to new york for thanksgiving (thanksgiving sales) nov 22-25
eat good asian food (so far i tried is ewww .. thai food that is not spicy and stir-fry that is really JUST stir-fry)
    mug more ................. ha!

hey! i'm sorry peeps, been really tired and lazy to blog :/ there is sooo much new happenings everywhere. i don't know how to start or where to start from.

short updates, i'm already in northwestern university. is still orientation period. so we have the normal academic advising, choosing of classes, and a few get togethers with fellow singaporeans and my dorm mates.
my dorm has been nice, to the very least, everything is still comfortably bearable. my roommate is really great and we click real well, so we are getting along fine.
most of the time, i hang out with fellow singaporeans or friends of fellow sophomores singaporeans. and this hanging out periods are mostly by chance!? we didnt need to plan before hand or whatever, we just meet! is awesome, the fate we have .. ha!
instead of playing orientation games like local unis ... we dont have such things. so we just chill around the campus (the lake is really pretty) and attend concerts/parties at night. like tonight, i went for LIFEHOUSE concert. but by the time concert start, i'm really sleepy. so i'm half asleep in a rock concert (-.-")

gee .. i'm too xian to write somemore .. tell me what you all want to know. then i will write k?

i'm hanging out with the wrong type of people these days ...

    1. i'm watching movies with my tuition kids
    2. i'm lunching/hanging out with my mother friends and they are sooooooo eager to have their kids meet me (kids ranging from 25 yrs old to 10 yrs old)
    3. i'm going to the housewife church gathering instead of the youth one ...

    oh dear!

the days just past very unknowingly. been a long time since i blog huh? i cant really rmb what i do on a day to day basis ...
probably more yoga, belly dancing, combat classes. which are super enjoyable. after weeks of no one asking me out (boo-hoo! i'm so unlove, no one bothers to find me) hahaha joking! (i do spend considerable time with my mother, each day to yoga class and lunch together plus shopping trips too ... lovely~)

so on monday i went for iceskating with yawen sis! heh~ the rink was pretty empty ... so i can freely 'try' to improve my skating skills ... like trying to move backwards (the secret is through moving your bum from side to side!) it was really enjoyable catching up with her! :D we promised to go do some healthy activities every week. hopefully i can bring her to one of the yoga classes this week :D

on tuesday, NUSAF (northwestern university singaporeans and friends!) had a get-together dinner. i get to know fellow NU-goers and seniors and alumnus! the seniors tell us a lot about all the nitty-gritty of NU like:
    1. is a 6 months winter school. frm november to april is freezing cold (sometimes colder than artic) at -29degree celcius!
    2. school food is okay till the end of the first week. cuz they repeat every week. it becomes really grosss
    3. NU has no fashion sense. being the winter school, everyone donned the same down jacket for the entire fall/spring period (4 years of school) and cover every exposed skin (except the eye area) with scarfes and muffs ... so everyone recognised each other from their jackets?!
    4. engin school is one of the biggest low storey building in the world. it has many basements, windowless. so the point is that, once you enter class in the morning at 7am and leave school at 5pm. you wont see DAYLIGHT AT ALL!!! cuz is just dark dark dark ... 5pm and is midnight dark
so my dorm mentor is also a singaporean, psc scholar. and my international mentor also live at my dorm. everyone just converts at ISRC! cuz is the BEST DORM EVER!!!! WOO~~
i seriously cant wait to go!!!

rika came back! and me, sui, den and lele went dinner together with her :D it was sort of farewell to me too! i 'snobbishly' declare that i'm not going to miss any of them when i go to the states. (well it was my plan! to feel 'detached' and adapt faster to the states and not affect my moral from missing things back home ....) it was a nice dinner to catch up with things etc ... small 2c3/4c2 gathering! ha! we planning to visit crescent this coming week too! i cant wait to eat the lor mee and vegetarian stall bee hoon :/

this afternoon, perk initiated a 'farewell lunch' for me. very small group of us. fred, chunjek, neo turned up at essential brew holland v. not a bad lunch! the dessert, apple crumble is amazingly delicious! the guys even wanted to pay for my meal (but i decline heh! you all have to treat me when i come back to visit singapore! not now ...) so we talk quite a lot of stuff. army, school, medicine, overseas, fellow classmates etc ... i think we stayed there for 3 hours? they even started betting whether i will get 'laid' first / job first / married first / children first / divorce first / plastic surgery VERSUS other class girls! -.-""" but it was a good fun. appreciates the intention to give me a 'farewell lunch' hah .. thanks guys :D hopefully can meet up with the rest of S17 *ahem!* bfr i leave.

so i was telling everyone (family and friends) ... if circumstances allow, i dont want to come back to singapore for holidays. maybe drop by for 3-5 days but not for long stay. i rather spend my holidays doing summer studies at japan or france or even china OR go travelling around the states/europe. and i also thought that it will be good to start my work/career there at the states. plenty of experiences. everyone said that i will sure miss my family, singapore food etc ... haha! i'm praying hard that my family will visit me often at america or else, come join me for my holidays. (my engin course is a 3 years course ...) what is home really to a 'settler' like me? i have officially 3 bedrooms at singapore, jakarta and batam. soon enough, another bedroom at evanston, northwestern univeristy ... i'm fated to be a traveller? i didnt even stay a decade at singapore...
of course friends and families are important. i definitely dont want to lose touch or contacts of all the dear people who have came into my life at one point or another (MSN! SKYPE! EMAIL! SNAIL MAILS! DONT LIE THAT SUCH TECHNOLOGY CANT HELP YOU KEEP IN TOUCH WITH ME!). but i shall treat this as an adventure? 3-5 years adventure?
i will come back to a home where i'm definitely most comfortable at ...

oh yeah ... my roommate has been the most enthusiastic of all ... she has been msg-ing me pretty often. with long long long long mails! :D she got us a fridge already! and even promised to give me an international call this coming week to chit-chat and all ... woo~ plus, i think our personality is very identical! no wonder NU put us together! haha :D hopefully we can be great roomies!!!!! yipee ...
hmmm what shall i talk to her about over the phone? colour coordination of our room? or more of our home background? or things to buy and not to buy? what you ppl think?!

i finished my maths / chem / school-rules tests .. didnt do well for chem .. poof! oh well ... i hope it doesnt affect that much, "i got merit for chem 's'?!" now back to full trottle shopping!!! i still havent get my bedsheets after people telling me that R H L aint a good brand.

    now .. toodleS!!!
princess stephanie ordered the kingdom to date her everyday!

    p.s: i'm crashing N U S tmr!!!! cant wait! 8am lecture~ waaaaaahhhhhhh hurrah! :P
